IMPORTANT CREDENTIALS IN TODAY'S COMPETITIVE WORKPLACE
OPS oversees all Continuing Education Units (CEU) programs at the University of Maryland and coordinates the administrative and record-keeping support required to award CEUs. The university's policy for awarding CEUs reflects the standards established by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), the most widely recognized resource on continuing education units in the nation.
University of Maryland CEU Standards include:
Sponsored by a department, college or other recognized academic unit of the university
- 10 hours of instruction contact per CEU awarded - programs with fewer hours may offer fractional CEUs
Programs that carry academic credit, but also offer CEUs, determine the number of CEUs based on a conversion of the number of credits offered
- Distance learning activities, synchronous or asynchronous, require 10 hours of instructional contact per CEU awarded
The cost of CEUs is $15.50 per certificate. OPS maintains a record/confirmation of CEUs awarded for a period of at least seven years.
