CUSTOMIZED LEARNING SOLUTIONS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

The Office of Professional Studies is your portal to the University of Maryland. We connect you to the knowledge and resources you need to define, create, and deliver essential learning strategies for your organization.

We work with external partners to provide skill and knowledge assessments to help organizations better understand their workforce development needs. And, in conjunction with our GraduateSchool, we develop customized programs in a broad range of format options.

SKILL & KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT TOOL

As a leader dedicated to your organization's future, you understand the value of professional development in keeping pace with the changing needs of your industry and your workforce. Yet the process of identifying specific learning needs and developing appropriate education programs can be daunting.

We partner with the National Business Service Alliance to offer an electronic skill and knowledge assessment tool called CView to measure employees' proficiencies in comparison to national job standards. CView can also be used to evaluate employee readiness for promotions or career changes, screen and evaluate job candidates, or to assess a group's knowledge and skills.

PROGRAMS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

We take a customized approach to professional development and training by offering intensive courses, one-day workshops and weekend programs designed to address specific gaps in knowledge and skills. Programs can be offered at your location, offsite, at the College Park or Shady Grove campuses, or online. Blended delivery options —a combination of two or more formats—are also available.

Success Stories:

OFFICE OF NAVAL INTELLIGENCE

OPS worked with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) to develop the Transition to Supervisor and Leadership Development Program, which aims to meet the training needs of its first-time supervisors. OPS collaborated with ONI and faculty from the University of Maryland Leadership Development Institute to design a four-day curriculum that included: competencies of management, communications, resource management, competencies of leadership, performance management, conflict management, and change management. In addition to the four-day on-site program, OPS created a participant's-only website with program agenda, downloadable articles, questionnaire, and instructions; and conducted post-program follow up and evaluation.

OPS also provided consulting services to ONI in five areas: customer assessment, customer relationship management, employee engagement, internal communications, and the development of marketing collateral.

FDA CENTER FOR DEVICES AND RADIOLOGICAL HEALTH

OPS works with faculty from the university's College of Health and Human Performance, College of Chemical and Life Sciences, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and the A. James Clark School of Engineering to deliver customized, non-credit courses to the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Taught on site, courses include: Introduction to Public Health; Introduction to Genetics Concepts; Introduction to Biomaterials; and Nanotechnology Characterization.
